Meet Your New Low-Tox Perfume: Your Bliss

Recent studies show that many perfumes contain potentially harmful chemicals known as hormone disruptors. Our olfactory senses (sense of smell), play a pivotal role in influencing our endocrine system, and over time, these synthetic substances can alter your hormone levels and disrupt the delicate balance within our body.

Fragrances have the power to stimulate neurones in the nasal passages, sending signals to the endocrine system to boost the production of certain hormones. However, excessive hormonal fluctuations can disrupt the delicate balance within the body.

Not to mention the impact fragrances have on our liver - they are loaded with “toxic chemicals” that cause a heavy burden to our liver. Some common hormone disruptors found in perfumes include parabens, phthalates, and synthetic musks.

But lucky for us, we got to chat with Maddie Burton, founder and creator of Your Bliss - a low-tox, fragrance brand about all things low-tox living and how she turned her adversity into a business opportunity. Meet Maddie from Your Bliss…

We LOVE Your Bliss! We are here for all things low-tox living. Tell us your story about how this started.. (can be as short or as long as possible)

Thank you so much! I was diagnosed with PCOS and Endometriosis about 7 years ago and my surgeon and doctor told me after my laparoscopy that they found Endo everywhere. It was such a shock to the system but I was relieved I finally had answers. He said that there was no cure for Endo but I could be aware of what I put in and on my body.

I started to slowly change to a more plant based diet, I changed my deodorant to a low tox version along with my toothpaste, makeup, hair products and when it came to perfume I could not find an alternative I was happy with. I love essential oils but I do not feel sexy on date night  pulling a bottle of pure essential oils out of my handbag.

I wanted luxury, head turning perfume without the hormone disrupters so I made it myself. I found a manufacturer who really understood my vision and here we are 4 and a half years later.

What makes Your Bliss different to other fragrances?

We have a strong message and why behind the brand and make sure that we are always giving back to the Endometriosis community.

We do not have any parabens, phthalates, or synthetic dyes. We do not use animal products or test on animals. You would be surprised at how many perfume brands still use animal products.

Why is low-tox living so important to you and why should it be important to our readers?

I think as women we already put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect which is why I am not someone who has to have everything in her surrounding as 100% organic and natural all the time. I am about enjoying life but doing my best and taking care of my body. I am so sensitive to alot of things and my body has been through a lot already so going low tox has helped me so much to live a healthier and happier life.

Make those small changes and pay attention to how you feel everyday. It made such a difference for me.

Perfume is just one way to eliminate toxins, what are some of your favourite ways to eliminate toxins in your environment?

My biggest tip is to look at what you use most often, the things you put on your body daily.

For me deodorant, perfume, toothpaste and my food. I love listening to podcasts and reading books  about swaps for low tox products and going from there. Do not do it all at once, its expensive and not great for the environment if you are just getting rid of everything all at once.

What is next in the pipeline for Your Bliss… can you share what you are working on?

We have not one, but two new scents in the work that are going to blow your mind. I can not wait.

We love what you are doing Maddie and thank you for sharing your story x
